Request for Grade 7 Families

This message is intended for Grade 7 families,

Thank you to those of you who have already signed up to help make the graduation celebrations for our grade 8 students a memorable one.

As you may be aware, every year the families of our Grade 7 students are wholly responsible for ‘producing’ our Grade 8 Graduation.

For those of you who haven’t yet had the opportunity to do so, please sign your name to either contribute a food item or your time.

Please sign up HERE !

Graduation is June 27th, just one week away and we’ll be expecting about 300 friends and families of the students to show up, we don’t want them to leave hungry!

Thank you in advance for your help and contributions,

Lex – Graduation Coordinator.

ECO/GARDENING CLUB REQUEST

Pollinator Garden

Our pollinator garden is starting to have its first blooms with the beautiful tulips we all planted last fall. We will be adding new plants to this garden to offer our pollinators a yummy place to feast.

If you have any native flowers that you would like to donate to our garden, please let us know. It really is a community garden and we welcome all green thumbs.

We are looking for bee & butterfly favourites, such as Aster, Fennel, Geranium, Milkweed, Echinacea, Sunflowers, Trumpet Vine… and there are many more…

Thank you!

KKSA DENTAL SCREENING MAY 5th, 2017

The following message is sent on behalf of Toronto Public Health.  Please contact them with any questions or concerns you may have regarding dental screening.

Dr. Hazel Stewart

Director, Dental & Oral Health Services

Dr. Barbara Yaffe

Acting Medical Officer of Health

Dear Parent/Guardian: School Year 2016-17

Toronto Public Health (T.P.H.) provides dental programs to children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.

To identify children with oral health problems, a screening program is offered to students in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health requirements for mandatory health programs. The screening is an assessment by a dental hygienist using sterilized instruments. The dental hygienist will assess the need for topical fluoride, scaling, sealant and any other obvious dental needs.

As a follow up to the screening, only parents whose children are identified as requiring dental services will be notified. A note to that effect will be sent home with your child/ren for your information and action. You may also receive a phone call from T.P.H. dental staff to assist you in accessing care.

Please be advised that this screening assessment does not replace the dental examination done by a licensed dentist.

If you do not wish your child/ren to be screened, please send your child to school with a note.

For additional information, please contact us at the phone number listed above or visit us at http://www.toronto.ca/health/dental/children_youth.htm.

Thank you,

Spring Fling Dance & Bake Sale

This Friday afternoon, KKSA Parliament is hosting the Spring Fling Dance & Bake Sale. The cost of the dance is $2 which will offset the fee for the DJ, while proceeds from the Bake Sale will support our Canada 150 in Bloom Highway of Heroes Living Tribute. Money raised will go towards planting trees along the Highway of Heroes in honour of Canada’s 150th Anniversary and as a living legacy to Canada’s fallen.

Thank you to families for providing bake sale items for this very important fundraising effort! The baked goods have always been very popular with the students!

ETOBICOKE TDSB EQUITY WARD FORUM

We would like to draw your attention to the Etobicoke TDSB Equity Ward Forum, which is happening tomorrow night at Kipling CI. Ms. Oketch, Ms. Ocampo and a Parent Council Representative will be present and we would like to invite any interested parents in our community to attend as well.

This is a public consultation to give input into the new version of TDSB’s Enhanced Equity Framework. We are pointing this out to you since the admission procedures for the TDSB arts schools have been much in the news lately and a report has just been released from an OISE researcher that is claiming that data shows that the arts schools have a disproportionate number of students from affluent families due to admission processes that are inequitable.

This may be a topic that you would like to have your voices heard on. Several parents from ESA are planning to attend and we hope to have representation from KKSA as well.

Leadership Academy – Summer School at KKSA

We continue to promote our Summer Program. Spaces are available for KKSA students. In the past we have had Grade 8 students attend to support the learning of students, while working to support teachers. Theses students have worked to earn volunteer hours. Many of the students had such a positive experience, that they are returning to our program this year. If you have a child that may be interested in volunteering please have them contact Mrs. Oketch.

Please share and help promote this excellent and free learning experience.
